<aside> 👉 All undergraduate students who either (1) take CSE 140 or (2) take CMPM 15 and participate in the XAI for AV theme will be able to audit the AIEA lab through CMPM 118 (a 5-unit course). All students that complete the tasks in the CMPM 118 course and fulfill the expectations will be invited to join the AIEA lab as full members.
Master’s students are also welcome to audit to the lab with a 5 unit independent study, which can transition into a capstone project. MS capstone projects will take at least 2 quarters: 1 auditing quarter and 1 quarter of active research in the lab. MS thesis projects will take at least 3 quarters: 1 auditing quarter and 2+ quarters of active research in the lab.

Auditing the AIEA Lab is an exploratory independent study to onboard prospective undergraduates and master’s students to research projects in the lab. This is an exploratory opportunity; it’s a way for prospective students to engage in research and learn about the AIEA lab culture. The auditing process is a 10-week independent study with deliverables every week.
AIEA Auditors will choose an active project to audit. For S24, the active projects are:
Robustifying Autonomous Vehicles
Neuron Explanations for Computer Vision
Self-Explainable Deep Neural Networks
Note: Students that are auditing the XAI autograder project must have either (1) taken CSE 140 or (2) have no intentions to take CSE 140.
